The economic recession that the US is facing, according to the media is due to the rising cost of oil and the "bubble" having burst in the the housing market. We can't deny that the cost of oil continues at near record highs. But is the housing market really a nationwide problem? A recent report contributed to RISMedia simply states NO! Home values did fall as the "bubble" burst but the media continues to report gloom and doom in the newspapers and on national news programs. The office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's (OFHEO) House Price Index (HPII) tells a different story and data from homes sales and appraisals paints a different picture. OFHEA reports that 35 states saw a positive home value price change beginning in the first quarter of 2008. The four states most affected by the decreasing home values are California, Nevada, Arizona and Florida. Those states are experiencing a period of leveling out. Just because 4 states are still falling and some other states continue to stabalize doesn't mean the entire market will continue to plunge. Almost 68% of the nation's states experienced positive appreciation. As recently as this past July positive signs began to show for home sales and values. For almost 63% of Americans the worst of the housing crisis seems to be over.
